Shop / plants for pets live snake plant
A rare member of the Dracaena genus, the Sansevieria Trifasciata "Black Coral" is a native of West Africa. This tall, robust plant can reach 3 to 4 feet in height at maturity, boasting a tight clump of vertical dark green leaves. Distinctive features include lighter gray-green, zig-zag, horizontal bands and broad, longitudinal green stripes along the leaf margins. Flowering on this cultivar, though uncommon, may produce fragrant greenish-white flowers clustered near the top of a vertical inflorescence.
Recognized as the Snake plant or Mother-In-Law's Tongue, this beautiful houseplant is an excellent choice for plant beginners and frequent travelers alike. Sansevieria plants are exceptionally low-maintenance, thriving on neglect in tight spaces with minimal water and light requirements, even in shady or indirectly lit areas. As one of the few plants that release oxygen at night, placing a Sansevieria in the bedroom may help improve sleep quality.
A NASA study has identified Sansevieria as one of the top air-purifying plants, able to remove harmful chemicals from the home environment. With their easy-care nature, Sansevieria plants are the perfect companions for those with busy lifestyles. Feel free to travel, as these plants do best when left alone with minimal supervision. Overwatering is the primary concern, as the soil in the top half of the pot should be allowed to dry out before watering. Overwatering may cause the leaves to yellow and the plant to rot.
When your Sansevieria arrives, gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth, check the soil for moisture, and place the plant in an area with plenty of indirect sunlight. Allow the plant to acclimate to its new environment for a week or two before moving or repotting, and avoid overwatering. Sansevieria should be fed a general-purpose plant food twice a year to maintain optimal growth and health.
Our team handpicks all potted plants, carefully inserting the pot into a plastic bag to help keep the soil in place, and adding a bamboo stake to prevent movement before boxing and shipping from our nursery in Florida. While extreme temperature changes and rough handling during shipping can be challenging for living plants, with a little TLC, your Sansevieria will thrive in its new home. This plant is not intended for consumption by humans or animals.
